There have been 26 deaths at the Santa Anita Racetrack just since December of 2018. Let’s be honest folks, this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the mortality rates of these animals, and not just Santa Anita. I want to refer you to an issue of ‘Animal Law’ from the Lewis and Clark Law School Animal Law division. Animal Law. Volume 21 Issue 2 2015 specifically. Although this issue addressed the Kentucky Derby horses, there is NO reason to believe any other outfit will be any different, better, but can be worse. I want to share a couple of excerpts from this issue, and it addresses the disturbing practice of nurse mares;

There is much more detail about the horrors these animals endure at the hands of trainers, owners, jockeys, and even veterinarians. Please folks, inform yourselves about these exploitative industries, not just horse racing but greyhound racing, rodeos, circuses, etc… The information is out there.
